RAF Roundel

Welcome

The Band of The Royal Air Force Honington Band is one of nine bands co-ordinated by the RAF Voluntary Bands Association and was formed in 1989, its primary role being to provide music for ceremonial and social occasions at RAF Honington. The Band does, however, perform at many functions and civic parades in the local area; many of the engagements the Band undertakes are in aid of local and national charities. The Band rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings 7.45 - 9.15pm and the musicians are either serving in the RAF (or another of the Armed Services) or are civilians. They all have one overwhelming thing in common - the enthusiasm to join together to make music!

Dads Army Weekend

Battle of Britain Parade, Bury St. Edmunds

Festival of Remembrance 2011

Under the Musical Directorship of Mr Tom Milford, the Band led a Festival of Remembrance at The Apex, Bury St. Edmunds on Friday 11 November. The evening, which combined a mixture of music and a traditional Drumhead service, was the second annual Festival of Remembrance organised by seven branches of the Royal British Legion, Suffolk. All proceeds from the evening went to the 2011 Poppy Appeal.

Charity Concert ~ August 2011

A charity concert in aid of Help for Heroes drew a sell out audience to The Apex, Bury St. Edmunds on Saturday 6 August 2011.

The joint venture was a first between The Band of The Royal Air Force Honington and The Royal Signals (Northern) Band under the musical directorship of Captain TW Milford BA(Mus) LRSM LLCM.

The combined bands performed a packed programme of music and were well received by a delighted audience. They were joined on stage by singers John Rowland, Julie Pendleton and Alison Cochlan, singing music from the shows including Phantom of the Opera and Oliver.

The evening also featured an emotional performance of Path to Peace as Captain Milford paid tribute to our servicemen and women who have laid down their lives during service to their country.

A collection held on the evening raised over £1,400 for Help for Heroes. H4H is a charity which raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country and to date the charity has raised over 105 million to support our wounded servicemen and women.
