Director of Music
The Director of Music is Mr. Tom Milford BA (Mus) LRSM who was appointed in April 2007.
Tom began his musical career at the age of 8, joining the Salvation Army Band in his hometown of Sunderland. At the age of 16, he joined the Army enlisting into the Light Infantry School of Music at Shrewsbury. After serving 13 years as principal cornet within the 3rd Battalion Light Infantry Band, he was recommended to attend the Student Bandmasters course held at The Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall. Thomas graduated in 1995 winning prizes for Conducting and Composition. He was also one of the first Bandmasters to graduate with a musical degree in collaboration with Kingston University.
In July 1996 he was appointed Bandmaster of the Royal Lancers Band based in Bovington and in February 2000 he had the privilege to be appointed as Bandmaster to one of the finest Bands in the British Army, the Coldstream Guards.
On leaving the service and before taking up his post as Director of Music RAF Honington, Tom worked as a peripatetic music teacher and conducted the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band.
